Teaching Experience
I have over 10 years of experience as a teaching assistant (TA), spanning undergraduate and graduate-level courses. My teaching journey has shaped my approach to fostering student engagement, critical thinking, and collaboration in diverse learning environments.
Undergraduate Teaching Experience:
During my undergraduate and master's studies, I served as a TA for several core life sciences courses:
Cell Biology, Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Fall 2014 to Spring 2016) – Supported first-year students in understanding foundational cell biology concepts and laboratory techniques.
Histology, Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Spring 2015 & Spring 2016) – Guided students in learning the microscopic structure of tissues and organs through lectures and lab exercises.
Basic Microbiology, Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Spring 2019) – Assisted students in microbial identification and laboratory techniques, including hands-on environmental and clinical microbiology experiments.
Food Microbiology, Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Spring 2019) – Focused on applied microbiology, helping students understand microbial roles in food production and safety through theoretical instruction and lab work.
Molecular Biology, University of Campinas (Spring 2021) – Helped students connect molecular mechanisms to experimental approaches and current research.
Graduate Teaching Experience:
At Duke, I have expanded my teaching to graduate-level courses, focusing on advanced topics in research and microbiology:
Responsible Conduct of Research, Duke University (Spring 2025) – Facilitated research ethics and integrity discussions, emphasizing the importance of scientific responsibility and collaboration.
Microbial Pathogenesis, Duke University (Spring 2026, upcoming) – I will serve as a TA for this course, mentoring students in exploring host-pathogen interactions and experimental analysis while leading paper discussions and problem-based learning sessions.
