Marco T. P. Gontijo
Currently based in Durham, NC, and a Ph.D candidate at Duke University.
Research and teaching interests include cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and genetics.
I am a microbiologist and molecular biologist pursuing a Ph.D. at the Smith Lab in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at Duke University.
Before coming to Duke, I earned my BS in Food Engineering at the Federal University of Viçosa in Brazil, with a minor in Biotechnology, at the University of Lorraine in France. I also earned a Master’s in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the State University of Campinas in Brazil.
As an educator in the life sciences, I encourage my students to explore science with curiosity and a drive for discovery.
